LUV PIE - Thanksgiving
A very belated Thanksgiving to all. It was a disjointed, different holiday for me this season, as i was out here in Boston alone. Luckily, i found warmth in new friends, roommates and text- message pictures of pie from my family in Indiana. Today's post is a work of great pie artistry i commissioned Frances Sandford (hehe, my mom) to do - the first official UR.WHT.U.LUV trademark pumpkin pie. Oh, and the song? It's Wye Oak, a fantastic band i've listened to all summer, and a song that's been matching the weather and the mood of this crunchy-leaf, overcast November week. Enjoy.

LUV MUSIC - SBTRKT in concert
It all began with Wildfire. This song is infectious- the first day i heard it i sent it to a couple of friends - none of us could take it off repeat. SBTRKT's album from this summer aligned with that as well - with Sampha's vocals taking center stage and pushing this new, fresh form of dubstep forward. Simply, it's great music to draw to, to dance to and just to think to. Wednesday night's show reflected that as well - I was surprised by the set up,Sampha on vocals, with SBTRKT spending equal time on drums and the tables. Below are two great SBTRKT songs, first, the infamous Wildfire, and second is a longer listen, his BBC Radio Essential Mix. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, i'm looking forward to drinking buckets of hot cider and crunching lots of leaves under my boots.

LUV MUSIC - Fevrier
The perfect fall day deserves some perfect fall day music. Maple leaves, pumpkins and an electronic piano-y jam. Purrrrfect, indeed.

LUV MUSIC - Quadron
I'm loving the soulful grooves of Danish duo Quadron right now- this song, Pressure is a little bit of a throwback to Motown, yet, it's still so fresh sounding. Singer Coco Maja Hastrup Karshøj does not have a booming, thundery Adele quality to her voice, but i think there is something just as powerful about it's quietness and tone that make it so interesting to listen to.

LUV MUSIC - Eric-Jon
I've got some special sauce for you today. This song, Can't Stop Thinking About You,is an original by my wildly talented roommate and friend, Eric- Jon. I've heard this song for weeks playing around our little Brookline apartment, and let's just say...I can't stop thinking about it. He'll be playing at a open mic at The Lizard Lounge tonight in Cambridge - if you're around the Boston area, stop-by! Happy Columbus day-hope it's filled with excitement and exploration. Ahoy!

LUV MUSIC - Sunday Girl
Sunday Girl on a Tuesday. I know, I know... but, hey- this is a fantastic song. Not to be confused with the Blondie tune of the same name, Sunday Girl is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Jade Williams. With a voice that lends easily to garage fuzziness as well as clean electronica, her newest songs have been given the star remix treatment from djs such as Diplo, Rusko and SLOF Man... it's easy to see why she's generating so much hype.

LUV MUSIC - Class Actress
Bring on the weekend. Class Actress has been blowing up my ipod these past few days. Infectious beats, empathetic lyrics (c'mon, who doesn't want friday to come?), and Elizabeth Harper's vocals - which could belong to that of a pretty robot, seem to make for a really tight song. My past weekend was great- with an impromptu trip to Portland, Maine- a little gem of a city on the ocean. In the few hours we spent there, we were able to absorb beautiful views, interesting art and of course, some microbrewery beer into our bloodstreams. I've been fortunate to have two really great friends here this summer who have a knack for adventure- I'll be sad to see them leave this upcoming weekend as they head back to school. For now,i'll cling onto what little bit of summer we have left and look forward to my own set of adventures that are coming my way.

LUV MUSIC - Bon Iver + James Blake
Ello. I've been too busy. Designin' up a storm over here in Boston..because our actual predicted hurricane was quite underwhelming. Luckily, the crazy late night project rush has blown over and i have a little down time finally. Today i bring you one of my least favorite things: autotune. Ahh, yes- an exception to the rule... Bon Iver and James Blake can get away with autotune sounding experimental and endearingly creepy- i am thoroughly digging all this mellowness. Hope your wednesday is going well - I'm looking forward to some labor day weekend shenanigans!

LUV MUSIC - Future Islands
Future Islands is killin' it right now. I think they're completely nuts. And don't get me wrong- some of the people i'm fondest of in my life are completely crazy- just in a really wonderful way. There's this Jello Biafra quality to Sam Herring, the lead singer's voice sometimes- in the way that it almost makes you a bit nervous while listening to it. And what better to pair with this song than a picture from this past Saturday i took and mashed up-we watched professional cliff divers dive off the Institute for Contemporay Arts here in Boston. Once again, absolutely crazy, but also absolutely facinating. I fully endorse falling off your rocker every once and a while.

LUV MUSIC - Blackbird Blackbird
I think somebody's parents listened to the Beatles as much as mine did. I am digging this song, Passions, by Blackbird Blackbird- but can't help but think some of the inherent coolness comes from its Norwegian Wood-esque guitarline. Blackbird Blackbird was introduced to me first through this Niva remix several months ago, and since i've really become a fan- it's great music to put you into a creative flow.
The collage for today features some jellyfish pics i snapped on my iphone at the aquarium with my friends this past weekend - i think the contrasting lights they had made for some really interesting imagery. Who knew jellyfish were such cool, mysterious neon-light loving little creatures? I think they would be into the mellow electronica like Blackbird Blackbird...

LUV DESIGN - Ice Cream and Explosives
I scream, you scream, we all scream for exploding european ice cream advertisements . So cool. The crazy part is that its not the result of some mad photoshoppery...but high speed photography, small detonators and precise calculations to predict the exact moment and depth of the explosion of each ice cream bar. Give me a poncho and sign me up - i'm sure that was a rather tasty/melty photoshoot.

LUV TGIF - Jhameel
TGIF. Srsly. It's been a long week. Kayaking, Chocolate Kahlua Pecan Pie Bars and lots of beer are all on my schedule for this weekend. Hoping that Mr. Sun decides to cooperate. Here is a great jam by Jhameel entitled Bernal Heights that seems to be the perfect way to kick off a great summer weekend-It's a bit new Sufjan-y meets Khia's "My Neck My Back "(lolz) - a steady beat with these wonderful floating melodies and lyrics. Enjoy and have a lovely ice-cream-filled summer weekend - I hope to post some design links early next week!

LUV MUSIC - Little Dragon
Little Dragon is probably my favorite new artist. Actually, undoubtebly my new fav. Yukimi Nagano has this electric-elastic band of a voice and when paired with their sick beats- the combination is nothing short of uh-mazing. I found myself on the T (Boston's lovely public transit train) to work, gridlocked between people in business suits listening to this song for the first time...and all i wanted to do was start dancing up and down the aisles. It's that good. Oh, and did i mention they're from Sweden? Another 10 cool points for Little Dragon. Enjoy.
